Laquer for F/P-spray? Don't know what this is Bob, can you help us out a bit. Your in the US right so you can buy McFadden's lacquer right from them if you buy enough. Also, Grizzly sells McFadden's for $13/qt. They also sell Behlen's instrument lacquer for $12/qt. Don't really know the difference, but I'm sure someone here will know. Than there are our OLF sponsors of course. Both LMII and Stew-Mac sell lacquer. These are all nitrocellulose lacquer, specific for instruments. Hope this helps. |

No your not....just spelled it wrong is all 
Ok, Shellac, you can get your shellac from one of the sponsors or from Shellac.net. They got it all. For sealing under lacquer I've used Zinsser's seal coat, 100% wax free. Get it in the small can if you don't have much to use, other wise it will go bad on you (it does claim to have a 3 year shelf life though). You can't get this stuff from HD, you will most likly have to go to a paint store for it. Also, check the bottom, there is a date there which either gives the expiry or the manufacture date (can't remember which, it will be obvious though)

I have not been able to get any response from the folks at shellac.net for a number of months. I don't know what is up with them, but it appeared as of a few months ago when I checked last, that they were no longer in business. Kremer Pigments in NYC has a nice selection of shellacs and lacs. Prices are good, too. |

Thanks Thomas, didn't know that. Mohawk also carries shellac as well as the Zinsser's seal coat. |

You can get shellac at most places that sell paint etc Lowes, HD. I get flakes at Woodcraft. I don't know if you meant Spray F/P because the F/P is a method of finish not a product. I am sure you know that, and I may have not understood, if so sorry. You can get bottle I think Zizzner Bullseye(I know I butcherd the name) that has some of the mix in it. If just want to spray the guitar with a shellac coat go to the above places. |

If you're near a Menards store you can get the Zinsser from them. Rod... when you seal with the Zinsser do you "body up" and level the finish with it or do you just do more of a thin wash coat? I like the stuff but I never know how many coats to spray before applying the top coats. thanks. long |

I've just used 2-3 coats as a wash coat (I've never realy understood if there was a difference between a wash coat and a seal coat), scuff sand to get the dust nibs out and than have at it with the top coats. |

I get Hock (same as the plane blades) dewaxed shellac flakes from WoodCraft. Very high quality. |

My local Lowes also carries the SealCoat. However,After talking with my local self-owned hardware store guru, they now keep it in stock. So I buy it there. |

Lee Valley doesn't carry the blonde shellac anymore, just the orange, at least at our store in Ottawa, maybe it's different in the US? |

Demand was not high enough to continue the product. Personally I did not like it because of the oil was in the mix. I do like Seal Coat as most know I have used it for years as both my sealing shellac and as shellac in most of my French polishing. I do get good shelf life but more like a year not Three. |

I usualy get my shellac from Shellac.net. Their prices are good and the shellac is very good quality. Richard Brune also said he gets his from them now. |
